Nobody is going to tell you that you should hire a life coach except maybe that one friend who is so fired up about their coach that they never stop talking about them. That’s because it’s an intensely personal choice that has to be made at the right time in your life based on the right connection.
You may want to learn more about different types of coaching or want more details on what coaching is, but if you’re fairly familiar with the concept, let’s start with one of the big questions:
Why is Life Coaching Becoming So Popular?
Coaching is a $2.85 billion global industry, and growing. Recent surveys have show that coaching can give you up to a 221% return on your investment. 73% of coaching clients claim improvements in work, relationships, and wellness.
But why has this fairly new industry exploded in recent years? This question is still being debated, but we believe that with the massive leaps in technology creating more and more interconnection and globalization, the human mind simply can’t evolve fast enough to keep up. As a result, we’re increasingly overwhelmed, stressed, confused, worried, and so much more.
While therapy exists to help you get to the root causes of psychological issues, there’s a gap that happens with people when they are relatively healthy in a psychological sense yet still unhappy and unsatisfied with their lives.
That’s where coaching comes in.
How Can Coaching Help Me?
Coaching offers a combination of things you can’t get anywhere else. Those include:
- Honest feedback, which is essential to addressing things that may be blocking you from moving forward.
- Outside perspectives to help broaden your understanding of yourself and your life.
- Accountability to help you continue to prioritize yourself and your goals.
Essentially, coaching helps you be, do, or have whatever it is that you’ve struggled to be, do, or have on your own.
Where do I start with coaching?
Many people start with a goal. This isn’t particularly wrong, but it can be narrow. You may, for instance, want to work with a career coach to help fast-track your career. While this can be helpful with goal setting and project managing, what we usually find at Growth Maker’s Lab is that if you’re stuck in one area of your life, you’re probably stuck in other areas as well.
We recommend seeking an alignment coach and choosing a holistic approach to achieving your goals. Alignment coaching focuses on the cause rather than the symptom. It’s designed to help you balance your life and align your choices with your truest self.
We’ve found (and so have our clients) that when you are in alignment in this way, success doesn’t have to be wrangled and dragged into your life. Instead, it simply arrives, and you receive it.
So should you hire a life coach? If you want more, aren’t sure how to get it, and are ready to take charge of your life and your goals, then you probably already know the answer.
